What to Consider if you are Planning on Cheek Augmentation in San Diego

Cheek fillers are a relatively new and minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that provides patients with several aesthetic and practical benefits.

What are Cheek Fillers?

Cheek fillers are cosmetic injections that soften Nasolabial folds (vertical wrinkles from the corner of the mouth to the chin), Marionette lines (vertical wrinkles from the corner o the mouth to the chin), and severe to moderate wrinkles in other areas of the face. Radiesse and Juvederm Voluma are two types of cheek fillers that are mostly safe and convenient for patients who want to lift, reshape, and smooth their faces without surgery.

Cheek fillers, also known as dermal fillers, are cosmetic injections that are FDA-approved for facial augmentation. Dermal fillers can address hollow areas in the face, sagging skin, and severe to moderate wrinkles in the face.

In this article, Dr. Paul E. Chasan, a board-certified plastic surgeon in San Diego, will discuss two types of cheek fillers, Radiesse and Juvederm Voluma. He will identify the key ingredients in Radiesse and Juvederm Voluma as well as the benefits and costs of Radiesse and Juvederm Voluma.

Radiesse

Radiesse is a soft tissue filler consisting of mostly Calcium Hydroxylapatite a synthetic material that is similar to collagen. According to a 2015 article in The Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology, “Radiesse is a biodegradable injection compromised of 30% CaHA and 70% water-based gel.” Over time, your body produces its own collagen as it metabolizes the CaHA. Radiesse is one of the only cosmetic injections that promotes new collagen growth. Radiesse injections can last between one year to 18 months.

Juvederm Voluma

Juvederm Voluma (more commonly known as simply “Voluma”) is a dermal filler mostly composed of Hyaluronic Acid (HA) a soft gel that occurs naturally in the body. Voluma can be used to treat “acne scars, cheek depressions, crow’s feet, marionette lines, wrinkles and lines that border the lips, and facial scars,” states a 2018 article from The American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Juvederm Voluma may last up to two years.

What is the Cost or Price of Cheek Fillers?

One of the benefits of cheek fillers is that they are significantly less expensive than cosmetic surgery. According to a 2017 report from The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, dermal fillers cost between $650–$700 per syringe. You will need more than one injection, and may even need a combination of injections. Meanwhile, other cosmetic procedures can cost thousands of dollars.

Ranch and Coast Plastic Surgery and Medical Spa guides their patients through the decision making process. Dr. Paul E. Chasan and his veteran injectable nurses are always happy to consult with you and discuss how Radiesse and Voluma injections might benefit you.

Benefits of Cheek Fillers

Cheek fillers are minimally invasive procedures that restore volume to the cheeks and soften wrinkles around the mouth, nose, lips, and chin. Radiesse and Voluma are quick procedures that give instant results. In addition, Radiesse and Voluma can be combined with lidocaine to reduce pain and discomfort.

The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery’s 2015 statistics publication reports, “in 2012, 446,934 people received Calcium Hydroxylapatite (Radiesse) and Hyaluronic Acid (Juvederm Voluma) injections, then the number of Calcium Hydroxylapatite and Hyaluronic Acid injections climbed to 764,537 in 2017.” The demand for cosmetic injections continues to rise because patients appreciate the aesthetic results and convenience of dermal fillers. Radiesse and Juvederm Voluma have mild health risks, take about 45 minutes to administer, and provide instant results that can last between one to two years.

Cheek Fillers Before and After

Many patients appreciate the subtle but noticeable benefits of dermal fillers which make your face look naturally younger and smoother. In addition, patients experience increased confidence and self-esteem as a result of their cheek fillers.

Radiesse and Juvederm Voluma contour, rejuvenate, lift, and smooth the face, reversing some signs of aging. A 2014 study published in The Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology reports dermal fillers can “improve perceived age, health, and attractiveness. In the study, 10 women who received dermal fillers were judged by a third-party of 150 people. The women underwent three sessions and after each session, the third-party noted a significant decrease in perceived age and an increase in perceived health and attractiveness.”
