MOMMY MAKEOVER 101
One of the most amazing events in anyone’s life is having children, however there is a price to pay on most women’s bodies. Whether you are a new mom or not you have probably noticed how pregnancy changes your body: lax or crepe-like skin, diastasis (tummy still protruding), breasts sitting lower than before, etc. Lucky for you, this can all be corrected at Ranch & Coast Plastic Surgery.
What is a Mommy Makeover?
Getting into more clinical terminology, post gestational atrophy and drooping of the breasts are common after having children. Additionally, there are often new fatty deposits and stretching of the abdominal skin. In today’s world, there is no reason that you can’t regain your pre-pregnancy body. The techniques in plastic surgery are more refined than ever.
A “Mommy Makeover” is the term used to describe the set of surgeries that will restore a woman’s body and breasts after the changes that come with pregnancy. A typical Mommy Makeover will involve a breast augmentation and/or breast lift, body contouring and sculpting with liposuction, and a possible tummy tuck.

The correct restorative procedure is based on the woman’s anatomy and a frank discussion with a plastic surgeon. Not every woman needs all of the listed procedures; a Mommy Makeover is customized and fine-tuned to each individual and their genetics. At Ranch and Coast Plastic Surgery, we specialize in Mommy Makeovers. In fact, we are one of the only plastic surgery facilities in San Diego that has its own overnight stay, making it convenient for both our local patients and our patients who come from around the world.
Typical Parts of a Mommy Makeover:
- Tummy Tuck and/or (Abdominoplasty) – Dr. Chasan is unique in that he offers 5 different types of tummy tucks, from mini to extended, based on a patient’s anatomy and the amount of work they need to get the best result. Abdominal muscles can separate during pregnancy and may need to be sutured back together to restore that washboard tummy. No matter how much you exercise, the loose skin and lax muscles sometimes just need to be corrected surgically. This is very common so don’t beat yourself up. During a tummy tuck, the abdominal muscles are repaired if need be and loose skin and fat cells are removed.
- Breast Augmentation and/or Breast Lift– A breast lift can tighten and lift the breast, making them perky like they were before kids. A breast implant or augmentation can add back volume, making the breast look larger than before or just restoring the size and youthful appearance. Some patients benefit from both a breast lift and augmentation, combining these two procedures. Dr. Chasan wants the patient to have the breasts they desire, so he created a roundness classification (See below). Patients can be as natural or as round as they like and it is in Dr. Chasan’s skill set to achieve this for them. After almost 24 years he gets it right and our patients are thrilled!
- Body Contouring (Liposuction) – Liposuction on the lower back (hips) and/or other desired areas can sculpt a woman’s body and give her back her slimmer, pre-pregnancy figure.
* Remember… it is generally best to be finished having all your children before considering these procedures!
